Dilworth · Charlotte

Right here on East Boulevard.

A dedicated sleep and TMJ practice in the middle of the neighborhood, for the people who walk to Freedom Park, live in the bungalows off Kenilworth, and are quietly worn out.

Dental Sleep Medicine of Charlotte is on East Boulevard in Dilworth. It treats obstructive sleep apnea with custom oral appliance therapy and treats TMJ dysfunction and jaw pain, billed to medical insurance rather than dental benefits.

Dilworth was Charlotte's first neighborhood, the streetcar suburb Edward Dilworth Latta laid out in 1891 so people could live under the oaks and still get Uptown for work. A hundred and thirty years later, that's still the deal: front porches and Craftsman bungalows on the inside streets, and East Boulevard humming down the middle, its old homes long since turned into shops, cafés, and offices. Ours is one of them.

We like being here for a specific reason. The people who make Dilworth work, the attorneys and nurses and small-business owners who bike to Latta Park on Saturday and fight the East/Kenilworth backup on Monday, are exactly the people who tend to ignore a sleep problem the longest. There's always something more urgent than being tired.

The tired that coffee doesn't fix

If you're commuting into the city, running on caffeine, snoring loudly enough that someone's mentioned it, and never quite waking up rested, that's not just a busy season. It's often obstructive sleep apnea, and around here it hides in plain sight. The good news: for most people it's treatable without a CPAP. A custom oral appliance is quiet, pocket-sized, and covered by most medical insurance.

Jaw pain and grinding, too

The same stress that keeps Dilworth moving shows up in the jaw, clenching, grinding, morning headaches, a jaw that clicks or aches. We treat TMJ and the airway together, because they're usually part of the same story.

Questions we hear from Dilworth.

Where exactly are you in Dilworth?

On East Boulevard, the same corridor that's been Dilworth's main street since the streetcar days, a short drive from Freedom Park and just up from Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center. If you live in the neighborhood, you can likely get here without touching a highway.

I commute to Uptown and I'm exhausted. Is that just the grind?

Maybe. But relentless daytime fatigue, loud snoring, and waking up unrefreshed are also the classic signs of obstructive sleep apnea, and they're easy to write off when you're busy. It's worth 20 minutes to find out.

Do I need a sleep study first?

Not to talk to us. We'll review a study if you have one, or help you get a simple at-home test. Either way, you don't have to have it all figured out before you call.

Neighbors, come see us.

A short conversation is the fastest way to know if we can help, and you barely have to leave Dilworth to have it.
